The NEWiRE Educational Foundation, Inc. has awarded its second annual scholarship in the amount of $5,000 to Elizabeth DiLorenzo. DiLorenzo recently graduated with a master of science in Real Estate from MIT, and has accepted a position in commercial real estate in Colorado and relocated to that area. The NEWiRE Educational Foundation is funded through the proceeds from the annual NEWiRE Networking Charity Golf Tournament & Clinic held every year in the fall.
The NEWiRE Educational Foundation, established in 2009 as a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation of New England Women in Real Estate (NEWiRE), is an endowed fund that will support the NEWiRE Educational Foundation Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a female student entering her junior year, senior year or graduate program at an accredited college or university based in New England. The student must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the commercial real estate industry through her course studies and/or internships in a commercial real estate firm.
The 15th Annual NEWiRE Networking Charity Golf Tournament & Clinic was held on October 3, 2011 at the Brae Burn Country Club in Newton. With the help of tournament sponsor Stewart Title Guaranty Company as well as generous event and prize sponsors, the tournament raised almost $20,000 to benefit The NEWiRE Educational Foundation.
"Once again, we were very fortunate to have a strong group of candidates for our annual scholarship from both undergraduate and graduate programs throughout New England," said Emily Batchelder, vice president and general manager at CB Richard Ellis and president of the NEWiRE Educational Foundation. "In the words of one of her MIT professors, Liz is 'one of the most talented, committed and caring students I have come across in over 20 years of teaching.' With her passion for real estate and her interest in building sustainable developments that help people connect with one another, we are certain to expect great things from Liz."
Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year with more than 400 members, NEWiRE provides a forum for networking and professional development to women in various commercial real estate disciplines throughout the Greater Boston area.
