Palmier of UC Funds to run Boston Marathon on behalf of the Palmier Foundation to support local charities

Dan Palmier, businessman and philanthropist, on behalf of the Palmier Foundation, will be running the 2014 Boston Marathon on April 21 to benefit One Fund Boston, Lieutenant Walsh - Firefighter Kennedy Memorial Fund and Friends of Wellesley METCO, Inc. The Palmier Foundation will continue its support of One Fund Boston in memory of the victims of 2013's Boston Marathon Bombing. The One Fund Boston continues to focus on the significant ongoing needs of the victims of the attacks. Palmier, the CEO of UC Funds, whose office is located one block away from the Boston Marathon finish line, said, "Our hearts are still heavy for the victims and their families from last year's senseless tragedy." The Palmier Foundation supports Boston's firefighters in mourning the loss of their brothers; lieutenant Ed Walsh and firefighter Mike Kennedy, in a 9-alarm fire on April 2. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Ed and Mike as well as with the brotherhood of firefighters," said Dan, whose father, a New York City Fire Officer for 34 years, company lost many on 9/11. Palmier understands tragic loss and has been moved to support these families in their time of need. His fundraising efforts will help build a small "nest egg" for the future needs of the families of these heroes who gave their lives for our community. The Palmier Foundation also supports Friends of Wellesley METCO, Inc. Donations are used to subsidize a wide range of programs including tutoring, summer enrichment, transportation coordination and scholarships for worthy students. When asked why he supports METCO, Dan responded"The METCO program affords better education opportunities to urban children and provides a more culturally diverse learning environment for suburban schools. Giving is not a choice, it's an obligation. I am very blessed to have a supportive family, top -notch education and great role models in my life. I am grateful for the opportunity to help someone who may not be as blessed as I am." Palmier maintains an active life style and encourages the UC Funds team to do the same. He has run the Boston Marathon in 1994 and 1996, raising funds for the American Liver Foundation and is excited to tackle Heartbreak Hill for a third time.
