What is one project or achievement in your career that you are most proud of, and how did it impact your organization or community? 48 Dunham Rd. in Beverly, was my first experience leading a development from concept to completion. I was exposed to myriad aspects of the design/build process – from navigating how building materials interact in the real world, to overcoming construction challenges on the fly, to forging strong interdisciplinary partnerships. It was also a wonderful exercise in realizing a cohesive vision. Through our deliberate use of materials and finishes, we achieved a fully integrated campus whose buildings, while dissimilar in function and form, complement each other as sibling structures.
What trends or innovations do you believe will shape the future of your field, and how are you positioning yourself (or your firm) to be at the forefront? I expect that the trend toward increased efficiency will carry CRE forward, particularly as it pertains to energy and materials. Cummings has an enduring commitment to sustainable building practices. We opt for energy-efficient building systems and solar arrays where possible to reduce our buildings’ energy consumption, and use high-performance insulation, window glazing, and HVAC systems to promote energy conservation. By remaining thoughtful and agile as each building is designed and constructed, we have been able to standardize these efficiencies while accommodating a range of clients.
What’s your favorite way to recharge or get inspired outside of work? Canoeing, kayaking, or paddle boarding with my husband and three kids always energizes me.
