Project of the Month: Erland Construction and ARC complete 33,600 s/f renovation for Cotting School in Lexington, Mass.

Lexington, MA After completing the campus center addition project, Cotting School invited both Erland and ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge back to campus to renovate 33,600 s/f of space within their existing academic building. Cotting is a private, non-profit school serving children ages 3-22 with special needs by providing an array of integrated services that foster academic achievement, skill development, and social-emotional maturity.

The scope of work focused on improving functionality, enhancing existing programs, and unlocking the full potential of Cotting’s therapy and learning spaces. Together with ARC, Erland updated classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, restrooms, multiple corridors, occupational and physical therapy rooms, and a central ramp. Renovations included new flooring, finishes, and lighting as well as upgraded mechanical, fire alarm, plumbing, and sprinkler systems.

“These renovations help us continue to meet the highly specialized academic and therapeutic needs of our students,” said Bridget Irish, president of Cotting School. “It was great having Erland back on campus and working with us to deliver another exceptional space for our students, staff, and community.”

The building remained occupied throughout construction. A phasing plan was developed to minimize disruption to the school’s ongoing operations.

“This project has been extremely rewarding for us, and we’re proud of what we’ve built for Cotting School and its students,” said Ben
McConchie, academic group manager, Erland Construction. “We value the relationships we’ve built with the Cotting faculty, staff, students, alumni, families, and board members and look forward to remaining involved with the school far beyond the completion of this project.”

This was Erland’s second time partnering with Cotting.
