Project of the Month: PROCON designs and builds 123 room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in Cambridge

The new Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott sits in the thriving hub of the city's business, art and educational district. PROCON was the architect and construction manager for the design-build project located on Monsignor O'Brien Hwy. The hotel was developed by XSS Hotels and is being managed by Colwen Hotels. PROCON began site work on the project in September 2013, and opened its doors to guests in early 2015. The Fairfield Inn & Suites is a business and leisure hotel offering an extensive range of amenities for travelers. The interior is an elegant mix of contemporary style and comfort, featuring 123-guestrooms. The beautifully appointed rooms are available in king and double queen studios, and king suites with living rooms. The rooms are equipped to enhance busy lifestyles with sleek design touches, ergonomic workstations, modern baths, granite countertops, and glass-walled showers. Guests also have the convenience of in-room microwaves, mini-refrigerators, and coffee makers. Sophisticated decorative tones combine with comfort in the lobby/lounge area, where guests may unwind from the activities of the day with cocktails and lite fare, or relax by the cozy fireplace. Today's tech-savvy travelers may utilize the lobby WiFi connections, or the business center. A fitness room, full service bar, and a 24/7 Corner Market are also conveniently placed nearby, and a complimentary hot/cold breakfast is available to jumpstart the day. A recent guest commented on his stay saying, "Although the hotel just recently opened, the entire staff and management seemed like they had been in operation for years. The team really cared about all the little details. Because of how nicely the hotel was operated and the professionalism of the entire team, I ended up staying for nearly two months. I highly recommend this hotel!" PROCON designed the 50,000 s/f hotel to achieve LEED Silver certification. Recyclable and regional materials were used in the construction. The building incorporates environmentally friendly design elements such as a white roof, and oversized windows. Low-flow plumbing fixtures and LED lighting are installed throughout the common areas, as well as in the 55-car parking lot. An electric car charging station is also available on site. This hotel is one of several hospitality projects PROCON has recently designed and built in the Boston area, including the Chelsea Residence Inn by Marriott, and the Chelsea TownePlace Suites by Marriott.
