Boston, MA Related Beal celebrated the grand opening of the Toussaint Louverture Cultural Center (TLCC) at Lovejoy Wharf, a significant milestone that introduces the first Haitian cultural center to the city. The vibrant community space adds to the dynamic ecosystem of Lovejoy Wharf, a thriving mix of housing, commercial headquarters, robust retail, and public waterfront area developed by Related Beal
“Related Beal is thrilled to officially welcome TLCC to Lovejoy Wharf, and we are excited for the community to interact with and learn from this new civic and cultural center,” said Aisha Miller, vice president at Related Beal. “This is a tremendous addition to the neighborhood, and we’re grateful to support this meaningful space honoring Haitian heritage.”
“We cannot think of a more fitting moment to highlight the Grand Opening of TLCC,” said a representative of H.A.U.” This is not just a celebration of Haitian history, but a celebration of Haiti’s ongoing contributions to the world, right here in the heart of Boston.”
TLCC will offer a unique visitor experience featuring author talks, adult and youth-focused classes on Haitian art and painting, gallery and display exhibits, a cultural library focused on Haitian print and digital materials, books, resources, and music, as well as a café. Additional events, such as dance classes, language classes, and youth programming will also be offered. More than a cultural venue, TLCC is a dynamic gateway to exploring and learning about Haiti’s extraordinary legacy and is an open invitation to connect, engage, and celebrate the richness of Haitian culture in Boston and beyond.
With the completion of Boston’s Rose Kennedy Greenway in 2008, Related Beal saw an opportunity to create a thriving mixed-use development at a key gateway entry point to the city. In 2013, the firm embarked on the transformation of a dilapidated wharf into offices, housing, retail, food and beverage, and community space. The goal was a thoughtful reimagining of the public wharf that would revitalize the neighborhood, and thus a new waterfront destination was created in Lovejoy Wharf. Its central location on the waterfront, near Downtown, Beacon Hill, Cambridge and the North End, provides residents and tenants with a live-work-play experience adjacent to TD Garden and is where popular restaurant Alcove, local Nightshift Brewing, and Converse call home.
Related Beal’s developments in the neighborhood extend across the street to The Courtyard by Marriott Hotel and The Beverly – the city’s first 100% income restricted housing in 25 years. The building offers a curated retail program that complements the energy of the North Station neighborhood and TD Garden and were influential in sparking the rapid development of the area.
