Schneider appointed Rackemann, Sawyer & Brewster department director

December 22, 2011 - Front Section
According to Rackemann, Sawyer & Brewster, Johanna Schneider has joined the firm as a director in the litigation department. Schneider joins Rackemann, Sawyer & Brewster from Choate Hall & Stewart, where she was a partner.
Schneider focuses her practice on real estate development permitting, land use and environmental litigation, and green building and sustainability issues. Schneider has represented public and private entity clients at the trial and appellate levels on a variety of matters including zoning, subdivision, wetlands and land use permitting appeals, environmental contamination disputes, and eminent domain claims. She guides clients through local, state, and federal permitting processes for complex real estate development projects, and counsels clients in the development of "green" buildings with respect to compliance with state and local requirements for sustainable real estate development.
Michael O'Connell, the firm's managing director, said "Schneider is a very talented, experienced lawyer with a proven record of successfully assisting her clients. This is a strategic lateral hire for us and we are delighted that she has become a director in our firm."
"Schneider is a well-respected litigator with strong real estate experience, and she will be a great addition to Rackemann's litigation practice," said Brian Hurley, chair of the firm's litigation department. "We are very excited to have Johanna join our team."
Schneider received her J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1999, and her B.A. from Wesleyan University in 1994. Since 2003, Johanna has served on the programs committee of the Urban Land Institute. She is also a member of NAIOP and is accredited as a LEED Green Associate by the US Green Building Council. Johanna serves as a class agent for the University of Virginia Law School Foundation. She has also been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyer "Rising Star" in a research project conducted jointly by Boston and Law & Politics magazines.
