SciTech Builders completes design and construction for Aspen Aerogels

SciTech Builders, a division of J. Calnan and Associates and one of New England's leading construction management firms specializing in planning and constructing facilities for lab, pilot and large scale manufacturing clients, has recently completed the design and construction of a lab/office expansion project for Aspen Aerogels. Working collaboratively with Aspen Aerogels, SciTech's design/build partners included Signer Harris Architects and R. W. Sullivan Engineers. The team succeeded in developing an overall program for Aspen Aerogels that created new office, lab and control room spaces, delivered over three phases of construction, to address Aspen Aerogels' "no downtime" environment. Utility cutovers and departmental moves required close coordination with Aspen Aerogels, our design team, our subcontractors and vendors to ensure that the manufacturing facility was up and running at all times. The project included two interior renovations and an addition to the existing structure to create over 18,000 s/f of new space for the client. Over the planning/pre-construction phase of the project, SciTech and Signer Harris worked closely with Aspen Aerogels and the city to gain approval for this important project. Post approval, the project required 7 months to complete the design, procurement, construction and start up of the facility. Jim Grunwald, president of SciTech Builders said, "As one of SciTech's first major projects, it was of critical importance that we set the foundation for the way SciTech Builders' does business with Aspen Aerogels. Aspen Aerogels' confidence in our ability to deliver, based on our prior 8 year relationship, is something we valued above all else. The successful outcome confirmed our market approach, service platform and culture of working collaboratively with great clients in partnership to achieve shared goals. We are very proud of what we have accomplished with this outstanding project and look forward to many more assignments like the Aspen Aerogels project." SciTech Builders, a division of J.
