SLAM healthcare welcomes Lam to the Boston team

Boston, MA Thomas Lam, AIA, LEED AP, has joined The S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM) as an associate principal and healthcare practice leader for the firm’s local office, overseeing the firm’s healthcare practice from planning and design through construction for clients throughout the Northeast, with a strong focus on greater Boston. Lam and Gabriel Comstock, AIA, senior associate and healthcare designer will team to help build on the current growth of SLAM’s healthcare practice.

SLAM’s national healthcare market leader David Neal, AIA, ACHA, said in welcoming Lam to the firm, “He is a tremendous addition to our healthcare practice, with years of experience helping serve numerous community health centers and healthcare systems throughout the Northeast. Lam is a forward-thinking planner, who combines a superior understanding of codes and guidelines with an aspirational approach towards design that helps move the needle in improving healthcare environments,” said Neal.

SLAM Boston managing principal Rick Polvino, AIA, LEED AP said, “We are eager to see the growth and synergy both Tom and Gabe can provide our Boston team. They will form a truly dynamic duo for our healthcare clients.”

Lam brings nearly 30 years of experience as an architect and healthcare planner to SLAM. He has dedicated most of his career to clients throughout New England, including Lahey Health, Baystate Health, Maine Medical Center, Shriners Hospitals for Children, and UMass Memorial Health Care.

He has also developed a niche in community health facilities, for clients such as Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center, Charles River Community Health, Community Health Connections, Harbor Health Services, Manet Community Health, North Shore Community Health Center, and many more.

He holds various memberships with industry organizations including the American Institute of Architecture, Massachusetts Community Health Initiative, Massachusetts Healthcare Facilities Professionals Society, National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, and the United States Green Building Council.

Throughout his career, Lam has written and presented widely on healthcare and community wellness related topics, including courses for the USGBC, Harvard Design School of Executive Education, Boston Build Convention, and the Healthcare Design Annual Conference.

“I am excited to build upon SLAM’s national healthcare practice that has catapulted into the top rankings of U.S. healthcare design firms over the past few years, with a focus on helping grow the firm’s burgeoning Boston healthcare studio,” said Lam, AIA, LEED AP. “With the industry’s focus on bringing healthcare closer to the communities at need, coupled with my extensive background in community health, we have a tremendous opportunity to partner with clinics and systems throughout the northeast and the country to provide healing facilities where they are needed most. I look forward to working with Gabe, Rick, David, and the rest of the national healthcare practice at SLAM to deliver these facilities.”
