Suffolk Construction selected to build new $17 million Barnstable Airport terminal

Suffolk Construction Co., Inc., was selected by the Barnstable Municipal Airport Commission (BMAC) to provide preconstruction and construction management at risk services for the new terminal facility at Barnstable Municipal Airport. The new 35,000 s/f, $17 million terminal will be built adjacent to the existing terminal, which will be demolished as part of the project. The new terminal will accommodate ticketing facilities, baggage claim, airport management offices, airline offices, passenger and baggage screening areas, a restaurant and a gift shop, transportation security administration offices, and secure/nonsecure holding rooms. The project scope also includes a general reconfiguration of the existing parking lots, the construction of two new parking lots and a new airport circulation roadway. Construction of the new terminal will be challenging. The airport and existing terminal will remain operational throughout construction, so the Suffolk project team will implement a comprehensive safety plan and construction schedule that will result in minimal impact on airport operations. Suffolk's in-depth experience managing construction and renovation projects on tight sites within operational facilities will be essential in ensuring a seamless construction process. Designed by AECOM|Earth Tech, the new terminal will be built to achieve LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Construction is scheduled to begin in September and be completed by October 2010.
