Boston, MA The Community Builders Inc., (TCB)  a leading nonprofit developer of mixed income housing and partner Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corp. (JPNDC) are moving forward with the transformation of Jackson Sq. The plan for the third phase of redevelopment will include 144 apartments—with 69 affordable units–across two buildings at Amory and Centre Sts. JPNDC will develop the low rise 4-story building on Amory and TCB will develop the six-story mixed income building on Centre.

The new, green community, designed by Icon Architects, will have 102 parking spaces, green space, throughways to connect the buildings and a large park for residents and neighbors to enjoy. There will be a 3,000 s/f plaza facing Jackson Sq. Station and a 27,000 s/f park.

The Jackson Sq. neighborhood is at the intersection of Roxbury and Jamaica Plain, where a variety of people with different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds live. The growing popularity of the location coupled with the construction of luxury rentals in surrounding neighborhoods such as Fenway and the Seaport, has created a strong demand for market rate apartments, in addition to the ongoing need for affordable housing, in the transforming neighborhood.

The first two phases of development include buildings at four sites. At 270 Centre St., there are 30 units of housing with 10 units for homeless families. There are 103 units at 225 Centre St. with 68 market-rate units. At 1542 Columbus Ave., there are 37 apartments and at 75 Amory Ave. there are 39 units under construction, all of which are affordable.
