According to The Landis Group, the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the Building Owners and Managers Association International (BOMA) has selected 400 Atlantic St. as the "Earth Building of the Year." The building was also named BOMA's "The Office Building of the Year" (TOBY) for 2012.
"It's an honor once again to have 400 Atlantic recognized by all the other building owners and managers as an exceptional business environment that not only meets, but exceeds tenants' expectations and requirements," said Scott Landis, principal at The Landis Group.
Earlier this year, 400 Atlantic was awarded LEED Silver certification under the U.S. Green Building›s Council for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance. 400Atlantic St. has also previously achieved the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Energy Star recognition.
"Earth Building of the Year is a much deserved honor, and is representative of the Landis Group's commitment to sustainability," said Emily Gove, sustainability consultant, Steven Winter Associates.
Enhancements focused on improving water efficiency, energy usage, materials purchased, solid waste management, and alternative transportation methods. 400 Atlantic also strictly adheres to green cleaning methods, using practices and products with environmentally friendly ingredients designed to preserve human health and environmental quality. Low-VOC building materials and integrated pest management were also used for both the exterior and interior of the building.
400 Atlantic St. is a 15-story, 500,000 s/f class A office building that was originally conceived and constructed as Champion Paper's world headquarters.
