Viking Construction completes $28 million project - The Heights at Darien

Viking Construction, Inc., has completed construction of the $28 million affordable community known as The Heights at Darien. Thismulti-phase project, which began in 2012 and was completed on schedule and on budget, included demolition, new LEED-certified construction for 23 two and three-story buildings, landscaping, and exterior elements such as barbecue and picnic grounds, and a recycling area. The Heights is located on the 10.5-acre site of the former Allen-O'Neil Homes (and of the former WWII-era Fitch's Home for Soldiers). Today, the community includes 106 one, two and three-bedroom apartments designed in the same architectural style as surrounding neighborhoods. The homes include energy-efficient appliances, windows and insulation, heating and cooling systems, and green-label carpeting. Each unit features designer bathrooms and spacious closets. "Each time we undertake a housing construction project, we know we are affecting families, neighborhoods and communities," said Anthony Gaglio, Sr., president of Viking Construction, Inc. "It is so gratifying to play a part in bringing an outdated and inefficient area back to life to meet the needs of generations to come - and to add wonderful value to the overall town."
