WinnCompanies awards scholarships to 43 residents of their properties

WinnCompanies has awarded scholarships to 43 residents of properties it manages to demonstrate the company's ongoing support for individuals pursuing their education goals. Residents of WinnResidential properties in 12 states received awards as part of the WinningEdge Scholarship Program, which provides financial assistance to residents who are high school and GED graduates and who are continuing their education in a college, university, institute or trade or professional school setting. "WinningEdge is one way we reaffirm our commitment to improving the communities and the lives of the people we serve," said Gilbert Winn, CEO of WinnCompanies. "We have awarded $166,000 in scholarships since launching this program in 2012. We're pleased to make this down payment on the bright futures of our residents." Twenty-two scholars live in communities managed by WinnResidential in CA, Mass., TX and RI. The remaining 21 are residents of military communities managed by WinnResidential Military Housing Services, a joint-venture of WinnCompanies and Lend Lease. They hail from AK, AZ, CA, HI, KY, NM, NY, NC, SC and TX. Each $1,000 award is sent directly to their schools to help defray costs. "I am grateful that WinnCompanies has a scholarship program just for its residents," said John Foster, Jr., a resident of Westminster Court in Boston, who plans to major in psychology and political science at American University this fall. "College tuition is very expensive, and my parents and I could use all the support that we can get." Team members at WinnCompanies evaluated 125 scholarship applications, including transcripts, essays and personal references, and chose recipients based on their academic performance, character, and proficiency in their chosen field of study. The WinningEdge Scholarship is one part of the company's WinnCares program, a national commitment to corporate citizenship that supports an improved quality of life in the communities in which WinnCompanies does business.
