Alan Blackman - 1966

Name: Alan Blackman - 1966

Title: Co-Founder

Company: Realty Limited

Location: Brookline, Mass.

Birthplace: Providence, 1930

Education: Hope High; attended Colby College After college, where he earned a varsity letter playing tennis, Blackman spent two years in the United States Air Force, then worked with a dress manufacturing firm, and in 1955, entered the real estate business handling sales and management of income producing property. In 1958, with George Crosby, a retired manufacturing executive who had some investment property selling experience, Alan formed Realty Limited. “This seemed a good field to enter since there were so few specializing in investment property sales at the time.” In commenting on the tight money situation, “I think it may shake out many of the ‘Paper Millionaires’ who have built up equities on the basis of buying with very short cash down at an unusually high price which was not a true reflection of value on the real estate purchase. I feel the situation will not be a short-lived thing and will be with us for a quite a while. The broker must concentrate on selling property that is already well financed even with several mortgages, assuming they do not come due for several years.” Blackman resides in Chestnut Hill with his wife and two children; is vice president of the B’nai B’rith Realty Lodge; and is the Director of Council D of the Broker’s Institute.
