Education: University of Penn., Civil Engineer It isn’t often a man works his way up the ladder to become president of a large non-family company, but George Jackson, employed 30 years in the textile industry became president of Powdrell & Alexander Inc. of Conn., Killingly Textile Corp., of N.Y., Gosnold Mills of Mass. and Atlantic Curtain of Cape Cod. Executive in charge of all real estate, leases, etc. in 13 branches throughout the U.S. and Canada, George liquidated several N.E. mills and negotiated the purchase and sale of 13 factories thought the country. In 1958 he was retained by a large national syndicate to buy and sell properties, which he did quite successfully. “I watched the syndicate make millions while i received my salary, and decided if I knew so much about the industrial real estate, why not use my talents to their best advantage by serving many instead of just one group. The one regret I had in leaving the syndicate was my association with one of its major stock holders, Casey Stengel. A close friend today, we worked on many deals together over the years.” In 1961, George opened his own firm in industrial, commercial and appraising property. He became very active with Realtor Board and was elected as the 1967 president. Married with an attorney son, Jackson have lived in Danielson for 35 years, enjoys hunting and fishing and at one time was a 2 handicap on the golf course. At 59, George is looking forward to a prosperous real estate career. “This is the next area for growth in the state and we are just getting started on the regional planning which will be a big help to our future.
