ThinkLiteBoston, MA ThinkLite has completed a dramatic energy efficient LED retrofit at One Post Office Sq. This project included the building’s parking garage, breezeway between the office building and adjoining Boston Langham Hotel, as well as the massive and impressive lobby with its high glass walls and shimmering marble floors.

Savings projections for One Post Office Sq. are significant, not only in dollars and cents, but in environmental impact as well. The project is estimated to remove over 415,000 lbs of CO2 per year or the annual equivalent of removing 37 cars from the road.

Michael McGloin, director of operations for Jones Lang LaSalle, managers of the property, discussed the process that resulted in the selection of ThinkLite for the project. “We were very impressed with ThinkLite. They have developed unique technologies that allowed us to retrofit existing fixtures with ThinkLite LED. We are pleased that we did not have to replace fixtures because the cost and business interruption would have been significant. Plus they negotiated with our energy provider, EverSource, to secure sizeable cash incentives for the project, which greatly reducing our out-of-pocket costs.”

Dinesh Wadhwani, ThinkLite CEO said, “We provided Mike and his team a comprehensive savings analysis for the lobby, the parking garage and breezeway. The projected savings, including reduced energy consumption and the virtual elimination of both lamp and ballast maintenance is nearly 60% for the lobby, garage and breezeway lighting.”

In the garage and breezeway, ThinkLite installed its proprietary LED tubes generating improved light quality, with a projected 65,000-hour lifespan vs. a lifespan of approximately 14,000-hours for a traditional fluorescent tube. Overall wattage consumption was decreased by better than 50%.

“Many garage customers as well as tenants commented on how much safer the garage feels with its well-lit environment,” said McGloin.

In the lobby, ThinkLite also retrofit several metal halide downlights with its exclusive LED downlight solution. Metal halide is among the most inefficient lighting options available, so by switching to highly efficient ThinkLite LED, energy consumption was decreased by nearly 70%.

McGloin concluded, “Our tenants and guests appreciate the fact that we are not only providing them an outstanding lighting solution, but that we are making a statement about our commitment to be environmentally focused and energy efficient.”
