The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) will hold World Workplace 2013, a learning and networking event for facility management (FM) and related professions, on October 2-4 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St. For more than 30 years, IFMA's World Workplace has been leading discussions on the management of facilities, FM teams and workplace projects. World Workplace addresses topics of the greatest relevance and concern to professionals who support the built environment. Facility management is a profession that encompasses multiple disciplines to ensure functionality of the built environment by integrating people, place, process and technology. Around the world, the role of the facility manager has risen to new levels of importance. The modern facility manager is directly involved with everything from sustainability to security, from worker productivity to asset management, from disaster preparation and recovery to the execution of day-to-day operations. Organizations of all types and sizes are making capital investments in their facilities to achieve critical organizational goals. It is growing evident that to achieve desired results takes more than a state-of-the-art facility - it takes facility management. IFMA is the world's largest and most widely recognized international association for facility management professionals, supporting more than 23,000 members in 85 countries. The association's members, represented in 130 chapters and 17 councils worldwide, manage more than 37 billion s/f of property and annually purchase more than $100 billion in products and services. Formed in 1980, IFMA certifies professionals in facility management, conducts research, provides educational programs and produces World Workplace, the world's largest facility management conference and exposition.
