2018 Women in Construction: Melissa Cheslock, Delphi Construction Inc.

Name: Melissa Cheslock

Postion: Project Manager

Company: Delphi Construction Inc.

Years in the A/E/C Industry: 11 years

What associations or organizations are you a member of? Cape Cod Young Professionals, Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod.

Why the A/E/C Industry? As a child I loved taking things apart and re-building them to figure out how they worked. As a teen I had a knack for delegating and was great at both art and math. I was intrigued by the building industry, so construction just seemed like the right career path to apply all of my natural skills.

Advice/Keys to Success: Be yourself! Manage your own talents and stay organized.

What was your most notable project in 2017? Because my mother was a very decorated/devoted nurse there’s always been a special place in my heart for health care projects. I had the opportunity last year to get another health care project under my belt by renovating a wing at the Provincetown Health Center to help Outer Cape Health Services provide better care to their patients.

If you had a mentor in your career, who was it and what did they teach you? Candidly, this industry can be very stressful and take a lot of your time. My mentor was a project executive from Clark Construction Group who told me to “Work hard and play harder! You’ve got to take the time to relax and enjoy yourself regardless of what’s going on at work.”
