2018 Women in Construction: Michelle DeCata, Delphi Construction Inc.

Name: Michelle DeCata

Postion: Assistant Project Manager

Company: Delphi Construction Inc.

Years in the A/E/C Industry: 4 years

Why the A/E/C Industry? I knew I wanted a career in the Design and Construction Industry as soon as I stepped onto the job site where I was volunteering for the Appalachia Service Project; rebuilding homes for families less fortunate than I. In my 4 years working in the AEC industry, I have found great gratification in seeing projects come to fruition. The challenges faced throughout the course of a project only contribute to the feeling of satisfaction and pride, once completed.

What was your most notable project in 2017? The Reading Public Library, completed in September 2017 was by far the most challenging and rewarding project I have worked on since the start of my career in the construction industry. During the course of the project, I worked diligently to communicate effectively with the client, as well as with my project team, under the pressure of a delayed schedule.

Advice/Keys to Success: My advice to all women who are starting their careers in the A/E/C Industry is to have tenacity and perseverance. You will run into road blocks and be put into challenging situations, but if you believe in yourself, you will succeed.
