2019 Women Who Build: Jacqueline Laramee, Network Design and Construction, Inc.

Name: Jacqueline Laramee

Position: Vice President

Company: Network Design and Construction, Inc.

How many years have you been in your current field? 10

Which project, deal or transaction was the “game changer” in the advancement of your career during the last 10 years? In 2016, we had started Network Design and Construction, Inc. and I was offered the opportunity to learn the accounting and finance side of the business. This then allowed me to step into my current role of operations manager.

What are you doing differently in 2019 that has had a positive impact on your career?

I haven’t quite figured this out yet. I am still working on becoming a better listener and explaining “why.” I think if I can improve on these skills I can help those around me and it would help me in my role.

What was your first job and what did you learn from it? My first job in the industry was a carpenter/intern for Network Interiors, Inc.

Who are three women – living or dead – that you would like to have drinks with and why?

1. Elizabeth I – She lead England during their Golden Age. During her reign, England defeated Spain, developed a superior naval power, and playwrights such as Shakespeare flourished. She did it without marrying. She was the original, independent female.

2. Martha Stewart – despite her obvious business blunder, she is still an incredible business woman. I respect how much her career has evolved. Also, I love to cook!

3. Ayn Rand – I think she is an incredible author and philosopher. I highly recommend everyone to read her books. I think anyone in the AEC fields would appreciate her writing.

What were your biggest fears when you started out in your profession? I wasn’t scared. I was excited to learn as much as possible and to prove myself on a jobsite. I knew that I was a hard-worker and that I was lucky to work for a company that was willing to teach me.
