2019 Women Who Build: Jane Milas, Garcia & Milas, P.C.

Name: Jane Milas

Position: Managing Director

Company: Garcia & Milas, P.C.

How many years have you been in your current field? 33

What was your first job and what did you learn from it? My first job was delivering telephone directories in high school in the summer. I realize many people today don’t even know what a telephone directory is, but back in the day people actually delivered phone books to homes and businesses! I learned the value of hard work and the lesson my parents drilled into my brother and I: If you commit to a job, you give it 100% no matter whether it is your ultimate dream job or a step along the way.

Who are three women you’d like to have drinks with and why? Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (law), Oprah Winfrey (media and social issues), and Emily Roebling (first woman field engineer for the Brooklyn Bridge project). Each one of these women broke barriers of prejudice and stereotyping. They inspire by their examples. I have a feeling they would have some very practical advice and some amazing stories to tell.
