2021 Ones to Watch: Shaun Vasselin, Assistant Project Manager, Vantage Builders, Inc.

Which project, deal, or transaction was the “game-changer” in the advancement of your career? My career received a significant boost earlier in 2021, when Vantage Builders announced its expansion into the Florida market. It has provided me with plenty of opportunities to grow and learn much faster. Seeing how the construction process is approached in a different region has helped me tremendously, by broadening my outlook and complementing my experience in the New England market.

What advice can you offer to someone who is interested in a career in your industry? All advice is good advice. Listen to what everyone has to say and then use your gained experience to decide what you think is best. Along the same lines, you should never be afraid to ask questions of everyone around you. Direct experience, listening to advice and asking questions are how you learn and gain knowledge. Then you use those bits and pieces of information to determine what works best for you.

Who or what inspires you? My father is the biggest inspiration I could have. He has led by example throughout my entire life. He worked tirelessly for years to provide a good home and comfortable lifestyle for our family. I try to live my life in a way that, when I have kids of my own one day, they will look up to me the way I look up to him.

How do you keep your team motivated despite conflicts and obstacles? It is all about having a positive attitude and enjoying what you do. There is always a positive for every obstacle, when you think of them as learning experiences. You are gaining new knowledge from something you did not know before then getting the sense of accomplishment from completing something you didn’t think was possible. Remembering previous obstacles you’ve overcome helps you to realizes that, when the next one comes up, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. That mindset makes it easier to keep the motivation going.
