If you could give advice to someone just starting out in your field, what would it be? My biggest piece of advice to someone starting out is to always ask questions and be curious. There were a lot of industry- standard architectural terms and processes I didn’t understand or know about when I was just starting out - and that’s OK! It’s easy to nod and agree even if in the back of your head you have no idea what they’re talking about. I encourage you to ask for clarification if something confuses you. Eventually all the dots will connect together! Knowledge is power.

Who has played a pivotal role in your development, and how have they influenced you? Elizabeth Von Goeler, currently a principal at Sasaki - I worked with her during a turning point in my initial career. I was 3- 5 years out of school, beginning to take on more responsibilities, and trying to find my voice as a young designer, figuring out how I should present myself at work. I was quieter and more timid in those first few years. Working with her, I was able to observe how intelligent and captivating she was in meetings with clients, cracking jokes and having fun while also effortlessly getting every point across for our designs.
