2025 Women in Construction: Carolyn Sicard, NEI General Contracting

Carolyn Sicard
Chief Estimator
NEI General Contracting

What is one project or achievement in your career that you are most proud of, and how did it impact your organization or community? The relationships I’ve built with subcontractors as chief estimator at NEI. I’ve always focused on creating strong, collaborative partnerships, which not only help subcontractors grow their businesses but also contribute to the success of the company I work for. In the A/E/C industry, where everyone knows everyone, building trust and earning respect has been key to achieving great results. These relationships have led to smoother project executions, long-term partnerships, and the growth of both the companies involved.

Who or what has inspired you most in your career, and what advice would you share with the next generation of women entering the A/E/C industry? I believe my late father, Peter Palie, has been the greatest inspiration in my career. In many ways, I’ve followed in my dad’s footsteps. He taught at WIT, where I also graduated. He owned his own construction company, specializing in housing renovations, while I now work for NEI on affordable and se projects. As for advice to the next generation of women entering the industry: work hard, ask questions, and communicate openly.

Have confidence in yourself, and remember that over time, you’ll feel more self-assured as you navigate the industry.

What’s your favorite way to recharge or get inspired outside of work? I love traveling with my family. We carve out a week or two every year to travel somewhere new.
