What is one project or achievement in your career that you are most proud of, and how did it impact your organization or community? One project that really stands out for me is the Sgt. Jordan Shay Memorial Lower Elementary School (or Shay Memorial Elementary School) in Amesbury, Mass. We completed the city permitting process and the construction documents phase of this project during the height of COVID, when everyone was working (and meeting) remotely. It’s a great example of what perseverance and collaboration under challenging circumstances can achieve – and taught our design team how to effectively communicate and execute while adapting to new technologies.
Who or what has inspired you most in your career, and what advice would you share with the next generation of women entering the A/E/C industry? Years ago, I worked in a diverse group of talented young professionals with varied backgrounds from different parts of the world. We leveraged our unique perspectives and shared in and inspired each other’s growth. These early experiences instilled a sense of responsibility, integrity, discipline, and teamwork, which is the key to who I am today. My advice to the next generation of women entering the industry is to be confident in who you are and to find your voice in your profession. Stay curious, learn from those around you, build your network, and be persistent – this field takes dedication!
What’s your favorite way to recharge or get inspired outside of work? I like to stay creative…but I’ll also never turn down a relaxing read on the beach.
