Southern Connecticut BOMA President's Message

September 15, 2010 - Connecticut
The newly formed Southern CT BOMA Emergency Preparedness Committee has been busy at work. On September 22nd, the Association will be hosting a program on Emergency Preparedness that will be open to all its members. Representatives from two security companies will offer their expertise on how to prepare for emergencies that may occur at commercial properties. Attendees will participate in a hypothetical disaster and will be asked to respond. Responses will be evaluated by the presenters and feedback will be offered so that participants can learn valuable information from the experience. The program will take place at High Ridge Park in Stamford. For more information on this and other upcoming events please contact Sharon Moran at 860-243-3977.
On October 7th, the TOBY Awards dinner will take place at The Inn at Longshore in Westport. Six buildings will be presented with the prestigious TOBY award and four honorees will also be recognized. This year's TOBY winners are: 53 Forest Ave., managed by Collins Properties; Three Stamford Plaza, managed by RFR Realty; 100 West Putnam Ave., managed by Antares Real Estate; 800 Long Ridge Rd., managed by BLT Management; General RE Corporate Headquarters, managed by Cushman & Wakefield; and Wilton Woods Corporate Campus, managed by Louis Dreyfus Properties. The Member of the Year for 2010 is Victor DeCicco of HB Nitkin Group; the Corporate Member of the Year is A.D. Phelps; the Allied Member of the Year is Robert Baker of New England Mechanical; and the Engineer of the Year is Al Guzman of Albert B. Ashforth. This yearly event is attended by over 250 people who enjoy the camaraderie of their fellow real estate friends.
The Holiday Social will take place on December 7th at The Carriage Barn in New Canaan. This venue promises to be a great place to network and enjoy the holiday spirit.
As an organization, Southern CT BOMA also seeks to help the community in which its members conduct business. A portion of the proceeds of the Third Annual Fishing Tournament will be given to the Make a Wish Foundation to help a child's dream come true. The event that was held on September 2nd was a lot of fun and a great success. Ten companies sponsored fishing boats and competed in a variety of categories. They took off into Long Island Sound to find their own "private" fishing spot and after a very hot day, returned to the marina for a clambake and the weighing of the fish. This year's largest fish award went to the Ashforth Company, which also took the trophy for the largest combined weight of their three largest fish. We appreciate those in the community who donated to the raffle drawing which helped us to make our contribution.
Membership renewal invoices will be sent to all 2010 members in September. Now, more than ever, it's important to stay connected to Southern CT BOMA and BOMA International. Encourage your real estate colleagues to join this very active and productive organization — it's the association to belong to in the area if you are in property management.
