Baybutt Construction named to build $12.75 million Gardner police headquarters

Baybutt Construction has been selected to build the new $12.75 million 33,000 s/f Gardner police headquarters on Main St. The project will revitalize the Main St. venue and provide a state of the art facility for the community. New features include dispatch with communications antenna, evidence storage to preserve the chain of custody, armory, new booking offices, and interview offices with separate areas for juveniles. The project also includes 10 cells to accommodate both sexes and juveniles, and a large community meeting room. The building will be entirely secure with closed-circuit television cameras and secure spaces for all areas of the building, as well as two sally ports for detention control. Baybutt has mobilized and will begin the project with the demolition of five existing buildings on this four-acre Main St. site. Once the site has been cleared, work will commence on the building proper beginning in 2013 and completion is scheduled for the spring of 2014. The architect is Jacunski Humes of Conn. with whom Baybutt completed previously the Acton, Mass. public safety facility. Baybutt has developed into a leader in the design and construction of public safety facilities in New England. Recent projects include Portsmouth (N.H.) fire station (New Hampshire's first LEED accredited fire station), Acton (Mass.) public safety facility, Somersworth (N.H.) police headquarters, Keene (NH) police, Bellows Falls (VT) police and fire, Keene (NH) central fire, Bennington (VT) fire and Antrim (NH) police.
