6th Annual Ocean Resource Management Conference July 22

July 21, 2011 - Green Buildings
The EBC is holding its 6th Annual Ocean Resource Management Conference on July 22 starting at 7:30 am in the Emerging Enterprise Center at Foley Hoag, Bay Colony Corporate Center, 100 Winter St. The program will be concluded at noon.
This year's conference will focus on federal agency ocean management programs. Past years programs have focused on the recent Mass. Ocean Management Plan and managing climate change impacts on New England's ocean and coastal resources.
The management of federal ocean waters is front and center with the national policy for the stewardship of the ocean, our coasts and the Great Lakes and the strategic action plans currently being drafted. One challenge is to understand the myriad laws, policies and regulations governing use and protection of ocean resources including water quality, ports and waterborne transportation, energy, maritime safety and national security.
At this EBC program, representatives of federal agencies will describe their programs and responsibilities and reflect on the new framework for strengthening and coordinating ocean governance and the nine national priority objectives. This is the opportunity to hear from those involved and gain an understanding of how implementation of the National Ocean Policy is being formulated and where potential business opportunities will develop.
This year's program will be chaired by Jack Wiggin, director, Urban Harbors Institute and Curtis Thalken P.E., COL (ret), vice president, Normandeau Associates, Inc. There will be speakers from the U.S. EPA, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Coast Guard.
