A/Z Corporation held an employee grand opening to herald the construction of their new corporate headquarters and to dedicate the new facility in memory of Edward Lorenz, founder of A/Z. The new 36,000 s/f, three story structure, located on 18 acres is adjacent to I-95, will enable A/Z to embark on an exciting new phase in their history, offering employees and clients superior solutions in the construction industry.
A/Z served as its own prime contractor for the renovation utilizing internal specialty services divisions, including CSA, Mechanical, Electrical, and Telecommunications staff to perform respective scopes of work.
Roughly 30,000 s/f of the original building constructed in the 1960's was demolished in April and the balance of the building constructed in late 1970s and mid 1980s would form the base building footprint. Demolition of the existing building and interior demolition of areas to be renovated was completed the first week of May, bringing the building to a structural shell. The A/Z crews then began the rough-in work required to support plumbing, HVAC, electrical and telecommunications. By June construction was in full swing.
"It was critical that we maintain our schedule and the intended move-in date of Oct. 19th as our existing facility in Ledyard, Conn. was being turned over to the new owner as of November 1st. Together, the A/Z team completed the detailed design, construction and relocation within eight months." notes Eric Herrman, A/Z senior project manager.
The new facility, designed by Fletcher-Thompson, incorporates efficient design features and technologies along with an open and flexible floor plan that enhances workplace interactions and business operations.
The renovated building provides an abundance of natural light and energy efficiency measures. The interior design, completed by Judd Brown Design of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, reflects a modern twist to the traditional office environment. The facility offers enhanced employee-friendly working and training environments. Some of these features include a new employee courtyard for corporate functions, an employee-friendly café lounge environment, and an interactive training facility.
"This move represents our continued growth and dedication to providing superior solutions in construction services. The new facility will help position the company for long-term growth and facilitate our commitment in providing our clients with unparalleled professional services." said Perry Lorenz, president & CEO. "This initiative will improve A/Z's market and geographical position long-term and centralize our interdependent operations."
Four decades have passed since A/Z opened its first office as A/Z Electric. Today, with offices in Conn, and Mass., over 345 employees and the company developing into a market leader in its field, they continue reinforcing their strategic principles and maintaining their commitment to best practices, continued development of employees, reinvestment in operations and markets, while remaining customer-centric in the delivery of services.
