ACEC/MA honors Jacobs as bronze award winner

September 20, 2019 - Construction Design & Engineering

Hudson, MA The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named Jacobs as a 2019 bronze award winner for engineering excellence for their work on the Washington St. (Rte. 85) over the Assabet River bridge replacement.

Working with MassDOT, the town and local businesses, Jacobs Engineering Group pioneered the use of new construction methods and materials that delivered a completed bridge with a roadway closure of only 85 days, 20 days sooner than the pre-negotiated outage length. These included the use of Northeast Extreme Tee (NEXT) precast beams for the bridge superstructure and Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) for field-cast closure pours. This project not only solved the critical needs of Hudson and the region ahead of schedule, but proved the efficacy of UHPC application for future bridge projects throughout Massachusetts. An international firm, Jacobs has Mass. offices in Boston and Bourne.

The 2019 Engineering Excellence Awards were announced at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with special guest emcees Jonathan Gulliver, highway administrator at MassDOT and Frederick Laskey, executive director of MWRA.

“Each year we gather to celebrate and recognize engineering firms for projects that demonstrate innovation and excellence,” said Michael Walsh, PE, president of ACEC/MA and vice president of CDM Smith. “We congratulate our winners who work tirelessly throughout the year to advance the goals and values of our organization and the industry.”
