Boston, MA The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named Thornton Tomasetti, Inc. as a winner of a 2018 Silver Engineering Excellence Awards for design work on Boston University’s Rajen Kilachand Center for Integrated Life Sciences & Engineering.
The 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards were announced at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with emcees Beth Larkin, PE, MBTA assistant general manager for Capital Delivery and Sam Sleiman, PE, CCM, MassPort director of Capital Programs & Environmental Affairs.
Thornton Tomasetti, Inc. was part of the team retained by Boston University to design the school’s Center for Integrated Life Sciences & Engineering, a 170,000 s/f building housing researchers, scholars and staff working on new technology. The need for a flexible, interdisciplinary research environment to accommodate current research and offer adaptable space for future exploration, combined with the unique characteristics of the building presented numerous structural challenges throughout the design and construction process. Thornton Tomasetti and the entire design team addressed and solved these challenges to ultimately deliver an outstanding, sustainable project on time and within budget.
