Cambridge, MA Acentech has promoted David Bateman, Jr., CTS-D, has been promoted to principal consultant in the systems group, and Alicia Larsen has been promoted to senior consultant in the Architectural Acoustics group. “The quality of a consulting firm is defined by the talents of its people, and we are extremely fortunate to have the talents and enthusiasm of people like David and Alicia,” said Jeffrey Zapfe, Ph.D., president of Acentech. “Their promotions to principal consultant and senior consultant respectively are a public acknowledgement of their dedication to client service and contributions to the growth of our firm. We congratulate David and Alicia on these well-deserved promotions.” David Bateman, Jr., CTS-D ~ promoted to principal consultant Bateman’s experience in audiovisual and sound system design is rich with unique problem solving techniques and he excels at computer modeling, control system integration, and client training and support. Since joining Acentech in 2000, Bateman has provided project leadership on a variety of project types including performance spaces, corporate buildings, higher education and K-12 schools, athletic, and healthcare facilities. Ranging in size from an eight-person videoconference suite to a 1,700-seat multi-function auditorium, his designs and installations vary from videoconference systems and distance learning facilities, to emergency operations centers for military installations and universities. Bateman is currently working on very exciting sound and video upgrades at a world-class performing arts center on Nantucket that includes 2,600-seat and 1,040-seat venues, several university classroom upgrades to make use of current collaboration technologies and growing trends in teaching pedagogy, and a unique culinary center. Bateman  has taught numerous AIA certified courses for architects on topics such as Introduction to Loudspeaker Systems, AV Infrastructure Required to Make a Space a Theater, Intelligibility in Large Sports Venues, and Design and Planning for Sight and Sound Technologies. He will be leading another session this November at ArchitectureBoston Expo (ABX) on conferencing and calibrating the participants’ experience. He holds several industry certifications in technology and digital media design, and is a member of InfoComm International and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT). Bateman received a Bachelor of Music from the D’Angelo School of Music at Mercyhurst University and a Master of Arts in Theatre Design from Villanova University. Alicia Larsen ~ promoted to senior consultant Alicia Larsen uses her passion for acoustic design to deliver the best possible acoustical environment in innovative and practical ways. Since joining Acentech in 2008, she has worked with clients to identify their acoustic needs and to find the best-fitting solution.  She has worked on a full range of project types including multi-family residential buildings, higher education facilities, K-12 schools, performance venues, corporate offices, and fitness centers. Larsen is especially interested in providing sound and vibration isolation for mixed-use buildings, community noise issues, and acoustical measurement and analysis. She has increasingly taken a leadership role within the Acoustics group with her development of project management techniques, and her use of Acentech’s remote monitoring technology. With this promotion, she will expand her role as project manager on larger and more complex projects. Her current projects include Mill Creek residential developments in Medford, Mass. and Hopkinton, Mass., the Hotel Commonwealth Expansion in Boston, and the Holbrook PreK-12 School. Larsen presented her graduate and consulting work at the Acoustical Society of America and the Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE) national conferences, and served as chairperson of the Greater Boston Chapter of the Acoustical Society of America from 2010-2013. Alicia received a Bachelor of Science from Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Science, and a Master of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Nebraska. In her free time, she performs as a jazz vocalist in the Boston area.
