AlliedCook completed construction on the public access station.
The renovated former Knights of Columbus building is now home to Biddeford's new public access station where city council meetings and other municipal programming will be produced and aired on the city's two cable channels. The station will also serve as a resource for the entire community so that individuals of all ages may create their own television programming.
Lachman Architects + Planners provided the exterior design, and Copen & Lind Consulting provided the interior design and served as the cable communications consultant. The 4,200 s/f renovation included demolishing part of the building, gutting the interior, and adding a new entrance. The renovation converted the space to a modern, soundproof broadcast studio for live broadcasts for up to 49 people, a smaller studio, a large room with multiple editing bays, sound control room, offices, conference area, and storage space. The facility will also continue to serve as the polling place for elections for Wards 1 and 2.
AlliedCook has constructed several buildings in Biddeford including the renovation of the historic Emery School into affordable senior housing, scheduled for completion in June, and several projects for the University of New England. "AlliedCook is pleased that we were able to hire so many local subcontractors and suppliers on this project," said owner Daniel Cook. "It was important to us that we involve as many businesses from the community as possible, especially on a facility that serves a community resource."

Lachman Archts. have also completed several projects in Biddeford, including the Biddeford City Hall Clock Tower. Copen & Lind Consulting has worked with many Maine towns and cities negotiating favorable cable contracts, building community organizations, advising on equipment needs, and helping to enhance community media resources. "We are delighted to be part of the design of this excellent, new community resource especially since we consulted for the initial Biddeford Cable Committee back in 1992 with the hopes that community television would grow to become an active and positive force for the Biddeford community," said Gennah Copen a partner with the firm.
