Phoenix Park, a 325,000 s/f refurbished 14-building green office and industrial business park developed from a historic cotton mill complex, is adding a 506kW solar electricity system as a flagship effort in a long string of energy efficiency work at the complex.
The solar energy system is being installed by Alteris Renewables, recently ranked as one of the the fastest growing renewable energy companies in the northeast. The system includes 2,530 Evergreen 200 Watt Solar Panels and Solectria Renewables Photovoltaic Inverters. Phoenix Park's choice of Massachusetts-made components from Evergreen and Solectria bolsters and reinforces the state's leadership position in the nation's growing green economy.
"Phoenix Park is committed to driving the Massachusetts green industry forward by hiring stellar local businesses for its green building and renewable energy initiatives," said Eric Shapiro, managing partner of Phoenix Park. A ribbon cutting is set for this spring.
The system is expected to offset approximately 50% of the total electrical load at the location. Over the lifetime of the system it will offset over 950,000 pounds of CO2 or the equivalent of planting 52,000 trees and eliminating the burning of over 9,800 gallons of gasoline each year. The falling price of solar panels, partial funding from the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust, and a combination of business tax credits helped make this investment possible for Phoenix Park.
