Amenta Emma projects receive top awards at IIDA N.E. Design Awards

Hartford, CT Three Amenta Emma projects received top awards at the 9th annual IIDA New England Design Awards ceremony at the Royale in Boston on February 11. IIDA New England is a chapter of the International Interior Design Association and holds an annual awards program to recognize the achievements of design firms in the New England area. Amenta Emma received the following awards:

• Best in State, Connecticut | CREC Discovery Academy: An abandoned electric utility site is producing “renewable energy” in the form of a PK - Grade 5 magnet school devoted to literacy in STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and math. Discovery Academy, operated by the Capital

CREC Discovery Academy - Wethersfield, CT CREC Discovery Academy - Wethersfield, CT

Regional Educational Council (CREC), opened in Wethersfield, in September 2015, in a facility that creates learning opportunities inside and out. Amenta Emma designers salvaged 48,000 s/f of an existing building and created a 19,000 s/f addition to accommodate learning spaces, labs, and a multipurpose gymnasium/theater/cafeteria. The facility takes full advantage of natural light and emphasizes indoor-outdoor connections, aligned with the school’s STEM theme.

• Best Office Design, 30,000 - 80,000 sf | Xylem: Xylem is a company dedicated to developing drinking and wastewater systems to improve water quality and accessibility in more than 150 countries around the world. Inspired by Xylem’s passion for global water solutions, the design team incorporated the company’s values and brand throughout the entire new 70,000 s/f corporate headquarters, while earning USGBC’s LEED Gold certification.

• Best in Healthcare | Reproductive Medicine Associates of CT: Reproductive Medicine Associates of CT is one of the leading fertility centers in the country. Understanding that families experience a high level of stress on the road to pregnancy, designers created a relaxing environment through the use of soothing colors, soft forms, and floral wall coverings. The 20,635 s/f space includes a comfortable and spacious reception area, exam and treatment rooms, recovery areas, consultation rooms, education rooms, as well as administrative and doctors’ offices.
