Andres Bernal, RODE Architects

Andres Bernal, associate AIA, LEED AP, has joined RODE Architects as a designer with a focus on urban design and architecture. In his new role, Bernal will be responsible for the urban design and planning of selected projects from early conceptual stages through construction administration. Bernal's current projects include the design and vision plan for an urban industrial district at Sunset Park in Brooklyn, N.Y.; a historic renovation of a mixed-use building in Haverhill, Mass.; and a historic renovation of a former school into a residential building in Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood.
Bernal's previous experience includes 10 years at CBT Architects in Boston, where he was a lead designer. His project experience there focused on academic projects such as student centers and residence halls, urban residential developments, and urban design.
Prior to joining RODE, Bernal assisted the Boston Redevelopment Authority with the development of urban design strategies and community engagement for the city of Boston's Energy Positive (E+) community projects. He also created design guidelines and planning reports as the basis for future request for proposals in collaboration with the city of Boston's Department of Neighborhood Development.
Bernal earned a Master of Science in architecture and urbanism from the Mass. Institute of Technology (MIT), where he received the MIT Merit Fellowship Award. He graduated from the Boston Architectural College with a Bachelor of Architecture, winning the Heenan Scholarship for academic and studio success.
