BOMA Boston hosts the 2014 Middle Atlantic Conference

BOMA Boston hosted the 2014 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) from Sunday, March 30 - Tuesday, April 1 at the Longwharf Marriott Hotel. The conference included keynote presentations from Legal Sea Foods CEO Roger Berkowitz and BELFOR CEO Sheldon Yellen. This was the first time Boston has hosted the MAC since 2003. Sessions included a regional commercial real estate perspectives panel, a presentation on the topic of outdoor readiness, and tours of the Seaport District and Fenway Park. The conference concluded with the regional TOBY Awards, with four Boston buildings being awarded and moving onto international competition: * 250,000-500,000 SF: 40 Broad Street, owned by TIAA-CREF Real Estate Management Core Property Fund, managed by Lincoln Property Company. * Government Building: 1550 MAIN, owned by Massachusetts Development Authority, managed by CBRE | NE Partners LP. * Historical Building: One Liberty Square, owned by the One Liberty Square LLC, managed by Lincoln Property Company. * Suburban Low-Rise: Westboro Executive Park, owned by Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers, managed by Jones Lang LaSalle. International winners will be announced at BOMA International's Every Building Conference and Expo, to be held at the Gaylord Palms Convention Center in Orlando, FL from June 22-24. BOMA Boston is federated with BOMA International and is the 3rd largest of BOMA International's 93 affiliates and BOMA Boston membership includes membership with BOMA International. On Wednesday, April 16, BOMA Boston hosted a monthly Roundtable on the Massachusetts Waste Ban. The program hosted by BOMA's Sustainability Committee provided information on how to comply with the new legislation that will take effect on October 1. John Fischer, branch chief of commercial waste reduction and waste planning of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, provided an overview of the Ban, why it is important and steps companies can take to manage their waste. Elise Vergano, green business specialist, from Recycling Works in Massachusetts provided valuable tips and resources on waste reduction, recycling and composting. Brian Balukonis director of waste operations at Raytheon Corp. shared his success of instituting a zero waste program across the company. In June, BOMA Boston will be participating in the Northeast Buildings & Facilities Management Show at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center on June 18-19.
