BOND hoisted the final steel I-beam at a reception to mark the "topping-off" of the Health Center on Union St. Joining BOND in marking the milestone were staff and board members of the Lynn Community Health Center, project architect HDR Warner + Associates, Local 7 Boston Ironworkers, and a host of other dignitaries and city residents. The topping-off marked the close of the foundation and framework phase of the project, which broke ground this past June.
According to the Health Center, major funding from the Federal Health Care Reform Act has enabled it to nearly double the size of the project by building out a second floor and completing the basement. The total expansion is projected to cost $18.8 million. The 29,300 s/f two story expansion will allow the health center to provide comprehensive health care for more than 7,000 new patients, in addition to the more than 33,000 individuals who already rely on it for their care.
