Boston, MA BRAGB, the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston, and GBREB, the Greater Boston Real Estate Board, co-hosted the Paradigm Shift event on October 22 at Ink Block.

One hundred guests were in attendance for the event, which featured networking and tours of Ink Block apartments, followed by presentations from the project’s team discussing the success of the development and its relationship to trends in the Boston housing market. Specifically, the event centered on the impact that millennials are having on the real estate market and the driving factors on choosing to live in a downtown community.

“We were thrilled to co-host this event, providing an in-depth look at one of Boston’s most exciting residential projects and why a downtown lifestyle is becoming increasingly popular among Millennials,” said Lorraine DeVaux, CEO of BRAGB.

Speakers included Ted Tye, Managing director at National Development, John Martin, principal at Elkus Manfredi Architects, and Sue Hawkes, president & CEO of The Collaborative Companies. Each speaker addressed the audience and discussed their role in the Ink Block project, their vision for Boston’s future, and specifically how Ink Block has had a positive impact on the South End community since its completion.

Formerly the site of the Boston Herald, Ink Block is a mixed-use neighborhood and retail development in Boston’s South End that features a variety of residential options, each with its own personality. Ink Block also features an on-site Whole Foods Market along with dozens of nearby restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and galleries.

BRAGB coordinated the event, with the help of GBREB and sponsors Rental Housing Association, Ink Block, The Collaborative Companies, Michael Kim Architects, Peabody Properties and Mass Save.

According to Hawkes, “Ink Block is a transformative residential project in Boston’s South End – a direct result of the development team’s vision to recognize the ground swell of demand for an urban lifestyle complete with convenience, walkability and access to all the experiences that the city has to offer. This demand transcends all demographics, from the empty nesters downsizing from the suburbs to Millennials anxious to remain close to the vitality of a transforming urban core.”
