Paula Wolfe, MBREA

The MBREA is in the midst of transforming appraiser education in New England with a series of exciting developments. The changes began to appear late last year when we began offering classes in several new locations. As of now, appraisers will find classes in Braintree, Danvers, Dedham, Springfield, Taunton and West Yarmouth Mass., Cumberland, R.I. and soon in Conn. The offerings run the gamut from Basic Appraisal Principles to Valuation Issues of Religious Facilities.
Several new classroom seminars are being offered for both residential and commercial appraisers including, Valuation of Religious Facilities, Residential Appraisal Review, Appraising Green Residences, Golf Course Valuation Issues and Restaurant Valuation Issues. One other, developed for commercial lenders as well as appraisers is the Financial Institutions Guide to Commercial Appraisal.
A quick way to earn continuing education credits is to attend one of our qualifying education courses. You receive 14, 18 or 28 hours of credit and do not have to take a final exam. These courses are great refreshers covering all the topics new appraisers have to master to become certified.
MBREA's online education with partner Hondros University, is adding four new courses in the next several weeks. Titles include Housing - Fairness for All, Green in Residences and Appraisals, Appraisal Review of Residential Properties and Methodology and Application in Sales Comparison.
You may have recently read about the newly created Alliance for Valuation Education. The Appraisal Foundation (TAF) and its sponsoring organizations have formed a national education partnership, the Alliance for Valuation Education (AVE), an organization dedicated to providing greater availability of consistent, quality valuation education. The AVE will be composed of TAF and 11 of its sponsoring organizations (alliance sponsors). MBREA is proud to be a sponsor of both the Appraisal Foundation and the AVE. The AVE will develop appraisal curriculum that will be available to educators to offer. MBREA is looking forward to an additional source, in addition to the high quality developers we already work with, of materials to use in seminars
Providing quality education has been a hallmark of the MBREA since 1934. Students regularly sing praise about the courses and seminars and especially about our instructors. If you are a first-time student, I invite you to try out a MBREA seminar and course, and if you are not satisfied to let me know and your money will be refunded to you. That's how confident I am in the quality of MBREA's education.
Paula Wolfe is the 2013 president of MBREA, Dedham, Mass.
