CAI New England President's message: A second time around

December 31, 2009 - Owners Developers & Managers

Tony Chiarelli, RMX Northeast, Inc.

Once again I am honored to have the privilege to serve as the president of the CAI New England chapter in 2010. Having also been elected to this position in 2005, I am hoping in the coming months to utilize the lessons learned from that first opportunity to make this second bite at the apple even better.
I'd like to thank 2009 chapter president Jared McNabb, CMCA, PCAM for his outstanding leadership in guiding the New England chapter and the institute into some new frontiers. Doubling up as the membership committee chairman, McNabb was instrumental in the committee's success in maintaining a steady flow of new members while expanding educational and networking opportunities throughout all New England chapter states. Most exciting is the thousands of new readers of Condo Media magazine, the chapter's official monthly publication, who now receive the new digital publication via email and online at www.caine.org. McNabb has left me a tough act to follow but we're fortunate to have some terrific folks on the board to help us continue to make CAI-NE and Condo Media magazine the best that they can be.
In 2005, the chapter established a Strategic Plan to guide CAI-NE through the ensuing 3-5 years. I am pleased to report that chapter volunteer leaders and staff have already more than met most of those objectives, the primary focus being a better organization for all our chapter states. We are now successfully very active in all our chapter states which include Maine, Mass., R.I. and Vermont, boasting consistently well attended educational programs, membership increases and more volunteer participation as well as new chapter benefits and services along with expanded regional forums and expos. In addition, Legislative Action Committees (LACs) are now active in all states with the authorization and approval of the Vermont LAC (VTLAC) in December 2009.
A new Strategic Planning Task Force comprised of homeowners, managers and business partners from all four chapter states are reviewing and updating the 2005 plan. This group will make a recommendation to the board in early 2010 on directions for the chapter that will guide us into and through the next few years, and my goal in the coming months is to position the chapter to implement those plans.
As always, reader input, insight, and questions are always welcomed and can be emailed to [email protected].
