Design-build has become a growing alternative to the conventional design-bid-build and CM delivery method because of its flexibility, efficiency and control. Today, design-build projects make up 40% of the construction market and continues to gain momentum*.  With this growing trend, facilities managers and owners need to become familiar with the available design-build choices and if their project would benefit from this approach.

Presenter Biographies

Eugene Torone, DBIA - Mr. Torone is president of S/L/A/M Construction Services and a Designated Design-Build Professional™ (DBIA™). He brings 30 years of experience planning and managing construction projects, including 19 years managing design-build projects. He has been responsible for the management of over 62 design-build construction projects ranging in value of up to $30,000,000. Nicholas Macy, CCM, PMP - Mr. Macy is the Director, Planning & Construction for the University of Hartford. He brings 20 years of experience in design and construction delivering large capital projects for public/private owners as a results-driven project management professional and team-builder, on projects ranging in value up to $125M, over a wide variety of renovation/new construction in educational facilities (Higher Education & K-12). Mark Rhoades, AIA - Mr. Rhoades is the Chief Design Officer of The S/L/A/M Collaborative and a Principal of the firm. His responsibilities include facilities master planning and design for complex institutional projects. He is involved in all project phases from initial programming and design through construction and has worked on a wide range of educational projects with a science focus. He has more than 23 years of experience designing educational facilities and has been the recipient of a number of prestigious design awards.
