On Thursday, November 14 nearly 300 ASM members and guests gathered at the spectacular State Room at 60 State St. in Boston for the Association's signature event, the ASM Biennial Dinner Gala, which featured special awards, entertainment and the election of a new slate of officers and directors to lead ASM. Richard Fisher, president of Red Wing Construction, took the helm as ASM's new president.
Fisher is joined by a team of officers including president-elect Joseph Bodio of Lan-Tel Communications; vice president Steven Kenney of N.B. Kenney Company; vice president James Miller of Salem Glass Co.; and treasurer Russell Anderson of Southeastern Metal Fabricators.
"Our association represents a multitude of specialty trades, and our board members reflect that broad expertise," said outgoing ASM president David Cannistraro, whose two-year tenure as president came to an end at the event. "We're confident the leadership team that's about to serve for the next two years is very well-positioned to help the subcontracting industry in Massachusetts capitalize on the rebounding economy, and assist in ASM's continued growth."
Three members who have been active in ASM affairs will serve their first terms as directors on ASM's board: Nardine Bellew, president and CEO of General Safety Services, Inc., a leading provider of fall protections systems, window cleaning, and professional engineering services; Matthew Brown, chief financial officer of Greenwood Industries, an award-winning roofing contractor whose projects include last year's re-roofing of the Mass. State House in Boston; and William Rucci, Jr., partner in the Boston area accounting and business advisory firm Rucci, Bardaro & Falzone PC.
A number of board members will be returning to the board for an additional term: past president David Cannistraro, J.C. Cannistraro, LLC; and directors George Allen, Archer Corp.; Steven Amanti, E. Amanti & Sons, Inc.; Roger Fuller, R&R Window Contractors, Inc.; Wayne Griffin, Wayne J. Griffin Electric Inc.; Robert Hutchison, The Cheviot Corp.; Dana Johnston Jr., Fall River Electrical Associates Co., Inc.; Susan Mailman, Coghlin Electrical Contractors; Erik Maseng, Viking Controls, Inc.; Scott Packard, Chapman Waterproofing Co.; Gregory Porfido, Mark Richey Woodworking & Design, Inc.; Nancy Salter, Frontline Inc.; Ann (Nancy) Shine, J.F. Shine Mechanical, Inc.; Frank Smith, Eastern Insurance Construction Division; and Sara Stafford, Stafford Construction Services, Inc. Serving with the board will be Corwin & Corwin LLP attorney Carolyn Francisco as executive secretary and general counsel, and Monica Lawton as CEO and Clerk.
The event featured local media personality Billy Costa as guest master of ceremonies, who entertained the audience with humorous and insightful anecdotes and stories. Also part of the event was recognition of ASM's Quarter Century members, and presentation of the 2013 "Legislator of the Year Award."
