Cambridge, MA Construction manager Colantonio Inc. has begun construction on the revitalization of 116 Norfolk St. project for the Cambridge Housing Authority.
The project, designed by HMFH Architects, is a gut rehab of a four-and-a-half story masonry building that was originally constructed in 1907. Colantonio will convert the 38 single-room occupancy units into studio apartments and build a 25,000 s/f, wood frame addition to house another 24 studio apartments. The building will receive a new common kitchen, waste disposal system, and an expanded laundry room. A new all-electric variable refrigerant flow heating and cooling system will also be installed.
The new units will provide housing for people who have experienced chronic homelessness and/or are elderly or disabled.
