Compass Installs Advanced Edstrom Specialty Lighting Control System at Dana-Farber Animal Research Lab

In a specialty lighting control system project, Compass Electric has completed installation of a state-of-the-art Edstrom Watchdog Lighting System in a Dana-Farber Cancer Institute animal research lab facility in the Smith Building. The NECA Boston Chapter member installed the multi-function sensor system, which controls lighting, and senses and records temperature and humidity in the animal research lab. Animals in the research lab require specific lighting schedules, and a consistent environment. To maintain the sterile environment, four Compass electricians were required to wear gowns, gloves, boots and masks, as well as wipe down all tools used while working in the labs. The labs were occupied during the fast track, one-month project and this necessitated very little interruption of lighting during the wiring, installation, and cut-over phases. Compass Electrical provided installations in close coordination with Dana-Farber, Edstrom Industries and Edstrom Engineering. The project commenced in mid-April and was completed by mid-May. Compass Electric Construction, LLC was founded by its principals David St. Onge and Barbara St. Onge in April 2006 and has been a NECA member since November 2006. In addition to other Dana Farber projects, including a Variable Frequency Drive Upgrade at the healthcare facility, Compass recently completed a Security System Upgrade for Deloitte & Touche at the John Hancock Building.
