Demolition of a single family home

The Connecticut/Western Massachusetts Chapter of SIOR recently sponsored a one day volunteer work party, with the Greater Bridgeport of Coastal Fairfield County Habitat for Humanity. Several Chapter members participated in the work day, which consisted of the interior demolition of a single family home in Stratford.
The day began by meeting at Habitat's warehouse in Bridgeport. Other groups and individuals volunteering included the First Presbyterian Church of Fairfield, St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Milford, and Sikorsky Aircraft. Organizational instructions were provided to all of the volunteers. The team from Sikorsky made a donation of $5,000 to the Greater Bridgeport Habitat for Humanity Chapter. Following this, the volunteers broke up into several work parties manning projects at different sites in the Bridgeport area.
The Connecticut SIOR group working in Stratford completed a number of jobs including removal of interior walls, wood flooring, a block chimney, electrical wiring, and plumbing. Despite the dirty and strenuous work, the team was pleased with their accomplishments for the day.
The Stratford property was recently donated to Habitat for Humanity in very poor condition. After demolition activities bring it back to its original structural studs, it will be completely rebuilt to be the future home of a qualifying Habitat family.
