Connecticut's paint stewardship program begins July 1

As of July 1, Conn. will become the third state in the nation to have a paint stewardship program. Under CT Public Act 11-24, Conn. DEEP's is responsible for making sure that paint is properly managed, including collection, transportation, recycling, and disposal. To do this, Conn. will be using the national organization PaintCare to administer the paint stewardship program. (OR and CA also use the PaintCare program, as will RI in 2014.)
To fund PaintCare's operating expenses, an assessment fee will be required from manufacturers of architectural paint selling paint in Conn. So contractors and subcontractors in the commercial construction industry may see the cost of architectural paint increase after July 1 in Conn. as the undoubtedly, the assessment fee will be convey at point of sale.
