PoroGen Corp. recently signed a lease for 30,000 s/f of first-class office, lab, and manufacturing space at 35 Cabot Rd. With its January 2013 move from nearby 6 Gill St., the venture-backed firm will nearly triple its footprint with commercial real estate company Cummings Properties.
Founded in 2005, PoroGen develops and manufactures membranes used during processes such as filtration, gas separation, and chemical absorption. Now undergoing its third expansion in five years, the high-tech firm originally was housed in one of Cummings Properties' 800 s/f incubator labs in Medford.
PoroGen's founder and president Ben Bikson said, "Cummings Properties was very helpful in providing the necessary infrastructure for the business, so we didn't have to worry about setting up a lab. It has been highly accommodating of our growth needs, providing additional space in a timely manner, whenever we needed it."
Having recently secured some long-term contracts, PoroGen required space for additional production lines to meet the increased demand for its products. According to Bikson, the main objective of the move is to quadruple the firm's manufacturing capability.
Tony Spencer, senior account manager at Cummings Props., said, "We work with many startups, and it is always exciting when one of our clients experiences the kind of success that PoroGen has. We were delighted to provide Ben and his team with a facility in which they can meet the needs of their customers and continue to grow."
Spencer said that PoroGen is one of many technology companies based within Cummings Properties' local portfolio. Its other local high-tech clients include Levant Power Corporation, Aegis Lightwave, Bandgap Engineering, EPIC Technologies, and Vaisala.
