Portland, ME Three employees have joined the ownership ranks of SMRT Architects and Engineers, as the company continues its growth with nationwide practices providing planning, architecture, and engineering services to clients in healthcare, justice, science/technology/manufacturing, education, corporate, and government sectors. SMRT’s newest principals include:

Kristen Damuth, AIA, NCARB, CSI, is known for her strong project management skills, particularly valued by her healthcare and education clients. Damuth relishes complex new construction and repurposing difficult structures, bringing to life her vision of possibilities and creating new, functional and beautiful spaces. Whether working with clients to explore new ideas, molding a building vision into reality, or taking a deep dive into complex code issues, Kristen brings to bear her meticulous eye for detail.

Michael Goard, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP is a skilled architect and project manager, bringing more than 20 years of experience leading both public and private sector projects across a variety of program types. His knowledge of complex new construction, historic preservation and adaptive reuse results in stress-free projects from initial planning through occupancy.

John Tobin, AIA, leads SMRT’s N.Y. office, building cross-discipline teams for project delivery with a sharp focus on innovation, collaboration and delivery optimization.

Relentlessly curious and future focused, Tobin writes and speaks internationally on advanced delivery, with a particular concentration on the use of data as a catalyst for disruptive innovation. Tobin leads SMRT’s building technology initiative, informed by his experience, his research, and his years teaching at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

“SMRT is fortunate to have a dedicated, talented staff at all levels of our organization, which has allowed us to grow throughout these challenging times. On behalf of the Board and my colleagues, it’s my pleasure to recognize and welcome new members to our ownership team,” said Ellen Belknap, AIA, ACHA, LEED AP, president of SMRT. “SMRT encourages professionals to ‘own your career and live it here.’ Seeing employees advance on the merits of their talents and commit to sustaining and growing SMRT together is hugely satisfying.”
